A little bit about Jim Buchanan
I live in Kokomo Indiana. That's about 30 miles north of Indianapolis. Officially, it's more like 50 miles, but I prefer to measure to the outskirts of the city, as that's where I drive to most often.
I worked at a large producer of automotive parts. We made a lot of the stereos and the "little black boxes" found in cars of many makes. We'd started to branch out into auto-related consumer items as well.
I worked as a Unix system Administrator, specializing in Linux, but also doing HP/UX and Solaris.
I have a BSEET from Purdue University. The odd thing is that I've only been there a few times in my life. Most of my courses were taken in Indianapolis at IUPUI, Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. I sort of expected to be doing circuit design, but I fell into programming, administration and circuit layout. Go figure.
I run Linux on my PCs at home, and ran HP/UX, Linux, and Solaris at work.
I have several cats, they live with my wife, Karla, and I in a small house on the south side of the town.
I enjoy woodworking, primarily with antique tools, and riding/fixing older motorcycles. As of the time I write this, I have a '73 BMW R75/5 and a '78 Honda Gl1000 (Goldwing).
